The Indexette addin is now available.
Well it took me a longer than I thought it would to get to this, and get it finished but, the good news is that the addin is available now.
I've already described what this addin is, what it does, and why in a previous post, A preview of the Indexette addin
If you haven't read that post I invite you to do so now.
There are a few important things to understand about Indexette:
1 - Indexette 1.0 requires Ode version 1.2.3 or later. Version 1.2.3 was released just yesterday (Sunday, June 13, 2010 America/New York). If you haven't downloaded and installed (or upgraded) the latest release of Ode on June 13th, 2010 or after then you'll need to do that first.
You can download the latest release of Ode from ode-is-simple.com/home.
2 - You must manually create Indexette's state directory. You'll find the details in the readme file included with the addin. It's not more difficult than creating a single empty directory. I just want to make sure that you don't miss this step.
3 - In addition to creating its indexes, the Indexette addin will add an index-date tag to each of your post files.
The tag serves two functions:
It helps to preserve post dates so that they will not change unintentionally (like file modification times can).
An author can conveniently update the post date by changing the value of the human readable index-date tag. By editing the tag value, posts can easily be assigned arbitrary post dates.
This means that the addin will modify your post files.
Posts are not edited in place, rather a new temporary file is created that is identical to the original (except for the inclusion of the new tag). The original post is deleted only after the new file has been created successfully.
However, I do recommend that you back up your post files first before experimenting with Indexette for the first time. (Of course, you should always back up your site - and any other data that you don't want to lose.)
Though Indexette should be safe, I make no guarantees. Use Indexette at your own risk!
Again, you will find more info in the readme file included with the addin.
